SEO for Joomla is, for the most part, done for you if you use the right tools. The SEO component of choice is sh404sef, generating SEF urls, META tags and more from your content. But there are other things you have to address to make sure you take advantage of all the SEO Joomla has to offer. It takes a little more time, but it is well worth it.

Links - When adding a link to your content, name the link a keyword like "web design" instead of "click here". Make sure to fill out the Title of the hyperlink in the Joomla dialog box and name it the same keyword.

Images - Make sure you fill out both the ALT and TITLE fields of the image dialog box. Name these a relevant keyword.

More - there are a few other important things to do; ask on this forum and I will tell you!

Images are worth a thousand words, except to Search Engines! Here we will learn how to optimize your images and make them enhance your content.

We'll assume you're using Joomla, but I'll cover how to do this in HTML as well. In Joomla, when you insert an image, the default Joomla editor kinda sux - so install JCE editor first. Now when you insert an image, make sure you look for the ALT field and type in a relevant keyword that describes the picture. If you would like a text to 'popup' when you hover your mouse over it, check out the Advanced Tab in the JCE Image Manager (same screen), and fill in the Title field. Now save and preview!
